Five minutes in and the show had me pondering the phenomenon associated with “miracle healers.” In recent years, it seems everyone and their grandmother, knows somebody, who knows somebody, who can heal you of something. And honestly, do these people have any authenticity to them? Like really?! Call me skeptical, but I find it hard to believe that a cancer patient can be healed overnight.  It just doesn’t make logical sense. But then again, miracles aren’t supposed to make sense, are they?  

 As a God fearing individual, I feel attributing God like qualities to a mere mortal, is downright blasphemous. Yet, I don’t for a second discount the power of positive thinking. How can I make sense of such a juxtaposition? And how is it possible that terminally ill patients have met with this “healer” and walked away, sans whatever it was that once ailed them? And with what appears to be a simple flick of this man’s wrist? I obviously don’t have the answers to such mind boggling questions. And after watching the show, I learned that neither did any of the guests. 

The thing that intrigued me the most (aside from the fact that the people who go to visit John of God, do so blinded by an unshakable amount of faith and with zilcho fear or reservation) was the inexplicable fact that even medical science could not explain how he is able to do what he does.

And some folks have a hard time believing in God. Pshhh, try explaining this!

1) You can pretty much talk your way out of any situation, given your arsenal of big words is HUGE and your delivery is fab.

2) Bureaucracy is the law of the land. You can either live by it and move on up the ladder. Or you can try to change things (to no avail) and sink to the bottom. Your choice kiddies.

I don’t know about you but I’m really big on professionalism. I often find that what you say doesn’t mean as much as HOW you say it. The WAYS in which you conduct yourself, handle your business, and ultimately treat your staff/clients. Alot can be said about someone judging them solely on their ability to maintain a professional attitude. For instance does what you say align with what you do? If not, you have some serious self-evaluation awaiting. 

Back to my story…

Do you know this “Doctor” had the audacity to verbally assault the father of one of his patients? And in front of a waiting room filled with current patients and potential patients such as myself? And to add insult to injury, he then proceeded to bark orders at his receptionist (who was dressed like she worked part-time at the local CoffeeTime) to “deal with these people before I have to.” Needless to say, I was completely flabbergasted. If that didn’t have me running for the hills, I was soon to uncover the reason for his incredulously, low treatment costs (he’s charging $3500, for treatment that is usually $5000 and upwards, in cost) He’s completely devoid of the professionalism trait that is expected of anyone working in a client focused/service field. Guess he missed the lectures on that.

Anyway, despite the fact that I had arrived 15 mins early for my consultation, I still had to wait what seemed like an eternity before my turn came. Upon walking into the space (literally) where the consultation was to take place, I noticed I had a rapt audience. Can you believe I was practically face-to-face with the packed waiting room? I felt like I was on stage, about to give the performance of my life! Considering I had not signed up for any such show, I was completely taken aback. No privacy whatsoever. And to think that this “doctor” (and I use the term loosely) didnt even have the wherewithal to take notice of my discomfort. He merely continued with his diagnosis as if it were business as usual. Shocking indeed. 

As he began his observation of my oral cavities, I felt a drop of water on my forehead. Then another. And another. Until one landed square in the corner of my eye. I looked up and low and behold, he had a leaky ceiling. That did it for me. I quickly thanked him and got up and out of there! Never again. Hood life for real! And he calls himself a professional. Pshhhhh. 

Moral of the story, never buy into something ’cause it seems like a good deal. Cheap does not always mean good for you. Research your options and follow your instincts. If its not looking right, most likely it isn’t.
